What Is a Country?

A country is a special part of the world where people live together. Each country has its own rules and leaders, called a government. Some big countries have many different groups of people living in them. We call these multinational states.

Countries can be different in many ways. Some are richer and have more things, called developed countries. Others are still growing and learning, called developing countries.

Names and Symbols

Every country has a name that people use every day, like Canada or France. But sometimes they have a longer, special name too. Countries also have special symbols. Flags, songs, and pictures help show what a country is proud of. For example, many countries have a national anthem, a special song that makes people feel happy about where they live.

Places We Call Countries

Sometimes, smaller parts of big countries are also called countries. Places like Greenland or the Faroe Islands have their own leaders but still belong to a bigger country. Even faraway islands can have their own special names and rules.

Countries are all different, but they all have one thing in common: they are places where people call home. Whether you live in a big city or a small village, you are part of a country that helps you and others live together.
