Admiral David Farragut

David Farragut was a very important leader in the United States Navy. He was the first person to become a rear admiral, vice admiral, and admiral in the United States Navy. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and grew up with the help of a kind naval officer named David Porter after his mother passed away.

When David was just 11 years old, he started helping in the War of 1812. He worked on ships and learned many useful skills. Later, he led ships in places like the Caribbean Sea and during the Mexican–American War. His most famous time was during the American Civil War, where he helped the Union by capturing important places like New Orleans and winning big battles.

After the war, David Farragut became known as a great hero. Many places and things are named after him, like Farragut, Tennessee and Farragut Square in Washington, D.C.. People remember him for his brave leadership and many years of service to his country. He passed away in 1870 after working in the navy for almost sixty years.
