Ducks
Ducks are friendly birds you can find all around the world. They love to live near water, like lakes, rivers, and oceans. You can often see them swimming or flying in the sky. Ducks belong to a group called waterfowl, which also includes swans and geese. They are usually smaller than swans and geese and have shorter necks.
Ducks come in many shapes and sizes. Some ducks dive underwater to find food, while others walk on land or float on the water's surface. They eat grass, water plants, fish, insects, and small animals. Ducks are very clever and can find food in many ways.
A young duck is called a duckling. Male ducks are called drakes, and female ducks are called hens. Ducks make many fun sounds, like the classic "quack." People love ducks and they appear in stories, cartoons, and even on team names, like the Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League.
Ducks live on every continent except Antarctica. Some ducks travel very far when the seasons change, looking for warm places to live. In places with lots of rain, like Australia, ducks move around looking for temporary lakes and pools.
People have known about ducks for a very long time. Ducks are raised on farms for their meat, eggs, and feathers. They also appear in jokes, stories, and cartoons, like Donald Duck and Daffy Duck. Ducks are special birds that bring joy to many people around the world.
