East Asia

East Asia is a special place in Asia. It has many countries and cities. The countries in East Asia are China, Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, and Taiwan. There are also two special areas called Hong Kong and Macau.

East Asia is very important. Many of its countries have strong economies. This means they make and sell lots of things to the world.

The history of East Asia is very old and rich. China has been a big influence for thousands of years. It helped shape cultures, languages, and calendars in nearby places. Important traditions like Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism began or grew strong here.

People in East Asia speak many languages. The most common are Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. There are also many smaller groups with their own languages and cultures.

East Asia has some of the world's biggest cities, like Beijing, Tokyo, and Shanghai. But it also has very empty areas, such as Mongolia and parts of western China.
