Edwin Hubble

Edwin Hubble was an American astronomer who helped us learn more about space. He was born in 1889 in Marshfield, Missouri, and later moved to Wheaton, Illinois. He loved sports like baseball, football, and track and field.

Hubble studied mathematics and astronomy at the University of Chicago. He also studied philosophy in England.

Hubble’s big discovery was that many objects in the sky, called “nebulae,” were actually faraway galaxies outside our Milky Way. He used special stars to measure how far away these galaxies were.

Hubble found that galaxies farther away move faster from us. This showed that the universe is expanding. This important idea is called Hubble’s law.

Today, the Hubble Space Telescope is named after him. It helps scientists look deep into space. Hubble’s work changed how we understand the universe.
