Geosphere

The geosphere is the solid part of our planet. It is made up of all the rocks and soil we see around us. It gives us the ground to stand on and the soil to grow plants. The geosphere also helps form beautiful mountains and valleys.

Long ago, people thought Earth had four parts linked to the elements: Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. Today, we know the geosphere is just the solid parts of Earth. It works together with the air around us, called the atmosphere, the water called the hydrosphere, and all living things called the biosphere.

Scientists sometimes talk about the top layers of solid Earth as the lithosphere. When we learn about our planet, the geosphere is a big part of the story. It helps shape our world in wonderful ways.
