What is a Government?
A government is the group of people who help make and follow rules for a country. They decide what is right and wrong, and make sure everyone follows the rules. Governments help keep things running smoothly.
How Governments Work
Governments usually have three main parts:
- A legislature that makes laws. This is like a group of friends deciding on rules for playing together.
- An executive that carries out the laws. Think of them as the people who make sure everyone plays by the rules.
- A judiciary that explains what the laws mean. They help solve problems when someone is not sure what the rules say.
Many countries have a constitution. This is a special book that explains the most important ideas about how the government works.
Different Kinds of Governments
There are many kinds of governments around the world. Some of the most common ones today are:
- Democracies, where people choose their leaders by voting.
- Monarchies, where a king or queen leads the country.
- Other mixes of these systems.
Governments help us live together by making rules and providing services like schools and hospitals. They come from many ideas and change over time.
