The Great Pyramid of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the most famous buildings in the world. It is located in Giza, Egypt. This amazing structure was built as a tomb for the pharaoh Khufu around 2600 BC. It is the largest of all the Egyptian pyramids and the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that is still mostly standing today.
The Great Pyramid was the tallest human-made structure in the world for more than 3,700 years! It was built over about 26 years using millions of stone blocks. Most of the blocks came from nearby places, but some special stones came from far away, like Aswan.
Inside the pyramid, there are three main rooms. The largest room is called the King's Chamber. In this room, there is a big stone coffin. This is where Khufu's body was kept. There are also two smaller rooms called the Queen's Chamber and the Subterranean Chamber.
The Great Pyramid is part of a big area called the Giza pyramid complex. Around the main pyramid, there are smaller pyramids, temples, and even pits that once held boats. One of these boats was carefully put together from pieces of wood and is now kept in a special museum.
Even though many people have looked inside the Great Pyramid, many secrets still remain. Scientists use special tools to learn more about this ancient wonder. The Great Pyramid helps us understand how clever and hardworking the people of ancient Egypt were.
