Hippocrates

Hippocrates was a wise doctor who lived a very long time ago in Greece. He was born on a beautiful island called Kos. People call him the "Father of Medicine" because he had many good ideas about how to help sick people.

Hippocrates thought that sickness happened because of things like where people lived, what they ate, and how they lived their lives. He did not think it was because of gods or magic. He believed in taking good care of patients and trying to guess how their illness might change.

Hippocrates and his helpers wrote many books about medicine. These books helped doctors learn how to care for people. One important idea from these books is the Hippocratic Oath. This is a promise that many doctors still make today to care for their patients kindly and well.

Hippocrates is remembered for being a kind and thoughtful doctor. His ideas about caring for patients and studying their health are still used by doctors all around the world. Many things, like a special look on a sick person's face, are named after him, such as the Hippocratic face. He taught us that being a good doctor means always learning and thinking carefully.
