The Japanese archipelago is a wonderful group of islands where the country of Japan is located. It has 14,125 islands in total! Only about 430 of these islands have people living on them.

The five biggest islands are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa. Honshu is the largest island and is often called the Japanese mainland.

These islands stretch over 3,000 kilometers from the Sea of Okhotsk in the northeast to the East China and Philippine seas in the southwest. They sit along the Pacific coast of the Eurasian continent, making Japan a special place in East Asia.

Japan also has a large area of ocean called an exclusive economic zone, which gives it control over many resources far from its shores. This makes Japan very important in the world!
