The Kingdom of England was a special country on the big island called Great Britain. It lasted from the year 927 until the year 1707. In 1707, it joined with Scotland to make a new country called the Kingdom of Great Britain.

England started in 927 when a king named Æthelstan brought many small groups together. These groups were called Anglo-Saxons, and they lived in places like Mercia and Wessex. Æthelstan became the first king of all these groups.

Over the years, many kings ruled England. Some were from families like the Plantagenet and Tudor families. One famous king was Henry VIII. He changed many things in England. Another important time was when James VI and I ruled both England and Scotland.

England was very important in Europe. It made strong friends and built big castles to protect itself. Even though England is not its own country anymore, many people still love to learn about its history. The name "England" comes from old words that meant "land of the English people."
