Kragujevac

Kragujevac is a big and interesting city in Serbia. It is the fourth largest city in the country and sits along the Lepenica River. Many people live there—about 146,000 in 2022!
A City with History
Kragujevac has a rich past. It was once the first capital of modern Serbia. In 1835, the first constitution in the Balkans, called the Sretenje Constitution, was announced there. The city’s name comes from kraguj, the Serbian word for the cinereous vulture. These birds once lived in nearby woods and were used for hunting. Today, you can see the vulture on the city’s coat of arms.
Work and Learning
Kragujevac is known for its industries. Factories there make cars and tools. One famous factory is Zastava Arms, and another is Fiat Serbia. The city is also a place to learn, with the University of Kragujevac being one of the biggest universities nearby. Students love studying there!

The city has many places to explore. You can visit parks, museums, and theaters. Kragujevac holds special events like music festivals and art workshops every year. The city has produced many famous people, including writers, actors, and athletes. One well-known person is Marija Šerifović, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007.
