Lincoln Memorial
The Lincoln Memorial is a special place in Washington, D.C. that honors Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. It stands at the western end of the National Mall, a big open park in the city.
The building looks like an old Greek temple with tall columns and is made from beautiful white stone. Inside, there is a large statue of President Lincoln sitting and thinking. On the walls, you can see words from two of his most famous speeches: the Gettysburg Address and his second inaugural address.
Many important events have taken place at the Lincoln Memorial. One famous moment was when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have a Dream" speech there in 1963. Every year, millions of visitors come to see this special memorial, which is cared for by the National Park Service. It is open every day for people to visit and remember one of America’s greatest leaders.
