Maya Angelou was a wonderful writer and poet from the United States. She was born on April 4, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri. Her real name was Marguerite Annie Johnson, but she changed it to Maya Angelou when she grew up.

Maya wrote many books, including poems and stories about her life. One of her most famous books is I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. People all over the world read her books in schools and universities.

Maya loved to share her life experiences through her writing. She wrote about important topics like family, identity, and travel. Her books helped many people understand different cultures and learn valuable life lessons.

In 1993, Maya read one of her poems at the first inauguration of Bill Clinton. This made her very famous, and she became the first poet to do this since Robert Frost at the inauguration of John F. Kennedy in 1961.

Maya Angelou passed away on May 28, 2014, but her books and poems continue to inspire people today. She was a strong voice for African Americans and women, and her work remains important in schools and libraries around the world.
