Paella is a yummy rice dish that comes from the Valencian Community in Spain. It is one of the most famous foods in Spanish cuisine. People love it because it tastes great and has many different flavors.

There are a few kinds of paella. One type is called paella valenciana. It uses rabbit, chicken, duck, and snails. Another type is paella de marisco, which uses seafood like fish and clams. People from Valencia say that only paella valenciana is the real paella.

The name paella comes from the wide, shallow pan used to cook it. This pan is called a frying pan in the Valencian language. The word paella has roots in Old French and Latin.

Paella started in the mid-19th century near the Albufera de València lagoon close to the city of Valencia. Today, paella is enjoyed all over the Mediterranean, the rest of Spain, and even around the world. In Spain, it is a special treat to eat on Thursdays.
