The Valencian Community

The Valencian Community is a beautiful place in Spain. It is found on the east side of the Iberian Peninsula. More than 5 million people live there, making it the fourth most populous region in Spain. The capital city is Valencia, which is the third-largest city in the country and sits along the Mediterranean coast.

A Special Place

The people of the Valencian Community see themselves as a special group with a long history. Their roots go back to the year 1238. Today, both Spanish and Valencian are the official languages spoken there. The city of Valencia was founded by the Romans and named Valentia, meaning "strength" or "valour".

Fun Facts

  • The Valencian Community shares borders with Catalonia to the north, Aragon and Castilla–La Mancha to the west, and Murcia to the south. To the east lie the Balearic Islands.
  • It is divided into three provinces: Castellón, Valencia, and Alicante.
  • The area has a pleasant climate with mild winters and hot summers, thanks to the nearby Mediterranean Sea.

Celebrations and Traditions

People in the Valencian Community love to celebrate! One big festival is called Fallas, held in Valencia from March 15 to March 19. During Fallas, colorful sculptures are built and enjoyed by everyone. Another fun event is the Tomatina festival in Buñol, where people throw tomatoes!

Delicious Food

Valencian food is very tasty. One famous dish is paella, made with rice and various ingredients. Another popular dish is horchata, a refreshing drink made from a special kind of seed. Don’t forget to try fideuà, which is like paella but with noodles instead of rice.

Sports Everyone Loves

Sports are very popular in the Valencian Community. Many people enjoy watching football (soccer). Teams like Valencia CF and Villarreal CF play in the top Spanish league, La Liga. There is also basketball, with Valencia Basket in the top league. Traditional games like Valencian pilota are fun to watch too.

The Valencian Community is a wonderful place with friendly people, beautiful coastlines, and lots of fun traditions!
