The Principality of Serbia

The Principality of Serbia was a country in the Balkans. It started after a revolution led by Miloš Obrenović. Leaders talked with Ottoman officials to help Serbia become more independent.

Serbia grew more independent over time. By 1867, Ottoman soldiers left, and Serbia was truly free. In 1878, other countries agreed that Serbia was independent with the Treaty of Berlin. Later, in 1882, Serbia became a kingdom.

Serbia had leaders called princes. The most famous were from the Obrenović family. They helped Serbia become its own country. Serbia was a special place where people worked together to make their nation stronger.

Serbia is remembered for its brave leaders and its journey to independence. It is part of the rich history of the Balkans today.
