Sea Trout

Sea trout are a special kind of brown trout. They live in both the sea and rivers. These fish are called anadromous, which means they spend time in the ocean and then return to rivers to have their babies.

You can find sea trout in many places! They live along the Atlantic and Baltic coasts of Europe, the United Kingdom, and Iceland. They are also in the Black and Caspian Seas, and as far north as the Barents and Kara Seas in the Arctic Ocean. Some sea trout have been introduced to places like Tasmania, Victoria, New Zealand, and Chile.

Sea trout look silvery when they are in the ocean. When they return to freshwater to lay eggs, they change to the typical brown trout colors. After laying eggs, they go back to their silvery look as they head to the ocean again. These fish are usually between 35 and 60 cm long.

People who enjoy fishing like sea trout. In some places, there are special rules about when and where you can fish for them. For example, in Germany, fishing for sea trout is not allowed during certain months to protect them when they are ready to have babies. In Wales, people call them "sewin" and enjoy fishing for them, especially at night!
