What is a Square?
A square is a special shape with four equal sides and four corners. Each corner is a right angle, which means it looks like the corner of a book. Because all sides are the same length, squares are very neat and tidy shapes.
Where Do We See Squares?
Squares are all around us! We see them in tiled floors and walls, on graph paper, and in the tiny dots called pixels that make up pictures on screens. Game boards like chessboards have squares, and many buildings use square designs. Even some foods, like certain waffles, can be square!
Fun Facts About Squares
If you know how long one side of a square is, you can find out lots of things! For example, the area of a square is found by multiplying the length of one side by itself. Squares can also fit inside circles, and circles can fit inside squares. They look the same no matter how you turn them — spin a square by 90°, 180°, or 270°, and it still looks the same!
Why Are Squares Important?
Squares are very useful in math and everyday life. They help us measure things and make beautiful designs. Because of their neat shape, squares appear in art, nature, and many human-made objects. They make things look balanced and organized.
