What is the Thorax?

The thorax is a special part of the body, also called the chest. It is found in many animals, including humans. In people, the thorax is right between the neck and the abdomen. It holds some very important parts of our body.

Inside the Thorax

Inside the human thorax is a space called the thoracic cavity. This space is protected by the thoracic wall. Inside this cavity are important organs like the heart, the lungs, and the thymus gland. These organs help us breathe and keep our blood moving.

Thorax in Other Animals

The thorax is not just in humans. Many other animals have a thorax too. For example, insects, crustaceans, and ancient trilobites all have a thorax. In these animals, the body is split into three main parts, and the thorax is one of them. In insects, wings and legs are attached to the thorax.

Why We Know About the Thorax

Understanding the thorax helps doctors take care of our health. It is important to know about the thorax because it protects our heart and lungs. When we learn about the thorax, we learn how our bodies work to keep us healthy.
