Tilbury

Tilbury is a friendly port town in Essex, England. It sits right by the River Thames, which is a big, important river. Tilbury is a part of the Port of London and has a big deep-water port. This port helps bring many things to and from London.

The town is about 24 miles east of central London and is next to Grays. A special boat ride called the Gravesend–Tilbury Ferry has helped people cross the river for many years. Tilbury is the southernmost point in Essex.

Long ago, people lived in Tilbury during Roman times. In 1588, Queen Elizabeth I visited the town to speak to her soldiers. Today, Tilbury has two churches and a school for younger children called Tilbury Pioneer Academy. The town also has a place for big cruise ships and the Tilbury Power Station.

Tilbury’s port is very busy. It helps move many things like paper, cars, and other goods. The town used to have many jobs in the docks, but today it has a few fewer. Tilbury Town railway station makes it easy to travel to London and other places.

The town has a rich history and many stories to tell, making it a special place to visit or live.
