The River Thames

The River Thames is a very famous river that flows through southern England. It is the longest river that stays entirely within England. The Thames starts at Thames Head in Gloucestershire and travels all the way to the North Sea near Tilbury and Gravesend.

The Thames passes through many towns and cities, including Oxford, Reading, Henley-on-Thames, and Windsor. In London, the river winds through the city, passing famous places like the Palace of Westminster and the Tower of London.

The Thames is home to many birds and fish. You can see swans, ducks, and herons near the water. The river also has fish like salmon and trout. Sometimes, you can even spot seals swimming by!

People have lived near the Thames for a very long time. It has been very important for travel, trade, and fun. The river helped London grow into a big city. Today, many people enjoy boat tours to see famous places along the river.

The Thames has inspired many artists and writers. Famous paintings and books often feature the river. It is a special part of England’s history and nature.
