Tortuguero, Costa Rica
Tortuguero is a small, special village on the Northern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. It is in the Limón Province and has around 1,200 to 1,500 people. You can only get to Tortuguero by boat or airplane, which makes it feel like a secret place!
The name Tortuguero means “Land of Turtles” because the beaches around the village are important places for sea turtles to lay their eggs. The area is also home to many interesting animals like insects, birds, jaguars, and four types of monkeys. There are special places nearby where people can learn about nature and help protect these animals.
Tortuguero is located on a sand bar island close to the Caribbean Sea. It has many canals that go through the rainforest, which people call “Central America’s Amazon.” These canals make boat travel easy and let visitors see lots of wildlife. Even though the ocean can be rough, it is still a wonderful place to explore and learn about nature. The village has a warm, rainy climate that helps green forests grow and supports many plants and animals.
