What Is Traditional Medicine?
Traditional medicine is the old way many people use to help with sickness and stay healthy. It is also called Indigenous or folk medicine. Many cultures around the world have their own special ways to heal. Some well-known kinds are Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, and Unani.
People in many places, like Asian and African countries, still use these old ways to feel better. The World Health Organization says that lots of people trust these methods. But, they also say we need to learn more to make sure they are safe.
Old and New Ideas
People have used plants and herbs to help with health for more than 5,000 years! Ancient groups like the Sumerians, Egyptians, Indians, and Chinese wrote about using plants long ago. These ideas traveled to Greek, Roman, and medieval European places. Even today, some of these old ideas help us make new medicines.
Nature and Healing
Many traditional ways use nature to help us. Plants, herbs, and sometimes even foods like chicken soup are used to feel better. These ideas are often shared in families or by special healers like shamans or midwives. They have been a part of many cultures for thousands of years and are still important today.
