Who Was Varāhamihira?

Varāhamihira was a wise person who lived a long time ago in India. He loved to study the stars and planets, and he was very good at math. People came to him for advice about important events because he could predict things that would happen in the sky and on Earth.

Where Did He Live?

Varāhamihira lived in a place called Ujjain, which is now in a region of India called Madhya Pradesh. He grew up in a town called Avanti and learned a lot from the sun god. His father taught him about jyotisha, which is Indian astrology and astronomy.

What Did He Do?

Varāhamihira wrote many important books about astronomy and astrology. Some of his famous books are Pancha-siddhantika, Brhaj-jataka, and Brhat-samhita. His books helped many people understand the world better. Even many years later, other smart people used his books to learn about the stars and planets.

Varāhamihira is remembered as one of the most important writers on jyotisha. His work was very useful for later Indian astrologers and astronomers.
