The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was a big and sad time in history. It happened in a country called Vietnam, and also spread to nearby places like Laos and Cambodia. This was a time when two parts of Vietnam, called North Vietnam and South Vietnam, did not get along well.
North Vietnam was led by a man named Ho Chi Minh. South Vietnam was led by another leader, Ngo Dinh Diem. Both sides had friends helping them. North Vietnam got help from strong countries like the Soviet Union and China. South Vietnam got help from the United States and other countries that did not like communism.
The war started after Vietnam was split into two parts. Many people moved between the two sides, hoping for a better life. The United States sent soldiers to help South Vietnam, thinking it was important to stop communism. Over time, the war grew bigger and sadder.
The war ended in 1975 when soldiers from North Vietnam entered a city called Saigon. After this, Vietnam became one country again. The war left many memories and changes in all the places it touched. Today, people remember the Vietnam War as a difficult time that taught many lessons about working together and understanding each other.
Many countries were involved, including Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, who supported South Vietnam. North Vietnam received support from the Soviet Union and China. Even though the war was very sad, the story of Vietnam helps us learn about history and the importance of peace.
