Welcome to Washington State!

Washington is a beautiful state in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. It is named after George Washington, the first U.S. president. People often call it Washington state so we know they mean the state, not the city where the president lives.

Where It Is

Washington touches the Pacific Ocean on its west. To the south is Oregon, and to the east is Idaho. Up north, it shares a border with British Columbia in Canada. The big city is Seattle, and the capital city is Olympia.

Fun Facts

Washington is great for growing fruits! It makes lots of apples, cherries, and pears. It is also famous for its farms and forests. The state has tall mountains and beautiful beaches.

People love to visit places like Mount Rainier, a very tall mountain with snow all year. The Olympic Peninsula has forests and beaches too.

Why We Remember It

Washington became a state in 1889. It is known for making airplanes and computers. Many big companies started here, like Microsoft and Boeing.

The state has many parks and nature places to explore. It is a wonderful place to live and visit!
