Welcome to Wiltshire
Wiltshire is a lovely county in South West England. It is surrounded by many other places, like Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, and Hampshire. The biggest town is Swindon, and Salisbury is an important city.
Wiltshire has big, open spaces with gentle hills. You can find chalk downlands, like the Marlborough Downs and Salisbury Plain. This area is also part of the Cotswolds, known for its lovely limestone buildings.
One of the most famous places in Wiltshire is Stonehenge. This amazing stone circle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s most famous landmarks. Another special place is Avebury, another big stone circle. Both of these sites show how people lived long, long ago.
Wiltshire is also home to Longleat, a grand house with a safari park where you can see animals like lions and giraffes. Salisbury has a beautiful medieval cathedral, and there are many other historic sites to explore.
The British Army uses part of Salisbury Plain for training, and you can sometimes see soldiers practicing there. Wiltshire has a mild climate with warm summers and cool winters, making it a nice place to visit any time of year.
So, if you ever get to visit, Wiltshire has lots of wonderful things to see and do, from ancient stones to beautiful hills and exciting animal parks!
