Hampshire
Hampshire is a lovely county in South East England. It is next to Berkshire to the north, Surrey and West Sussex to the east, and Dorset to the west. The Isle of Wight is just across the water called the Solent.
The biggest towns are Southampton and Portsmouth. Both are important places for jobs and for visitors. Other towns you might hear about are Basingstoke, Andover, and Winchester. Winchester is very old and has a beautiful cathedral.
Hampshire has beautiful countryside with rolling hills and special places like the New Forest. The New Forest is home to ponies, deer, and many birds. There are also rivers such as the Loddon, Wey, Itchen, and Test where people like to fish and walk.
Long ago, people have lived in Hampshire since the end of the last Ice Age. During Roman Britain, the main town was called Venta Belgarum, which is now Winchester. Over time, ports like Southampton grew because of trade with the European mainland.
Hampshire is famous for its history, beautiful landscapes, and important towns. It is a place where old stories and new adventures come together.
