New 7 Wonders of the World
In 2001, people around the world began an exciting project to choose the most amazing buildings and places. They could vote for their favorites online or by phone. The winners were announced in 2007 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The seven chosen wonders are special spots from many countries. Each one tells a story of people, history, and creativity.
Here are the seven wonders:
- Great Wall of China in China
- Petra in Ma'an, Jordan
- Colosseum in Rome, Italy
- Chichén Itzá in Yucatán, Mexico
- Machu Picchu in Cuzco Region, Peru
- Taj Mahal in Agra, India
- Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The pyramids at Giza Necropolis in Egypt were also given a special honor. They are the only one of the ancient Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing today.
People all over the world voted for these wonders. In Brazil, businesses helped people vote for Christ the Redeemer. In Peru, many celebrated when Machu Picchu was chosen. It was a fun and exciting time for everyone!
