Archery at the 2016 Summer Olympics
Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
The archery events at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro happened from August 6 to August 12. These events went on for seven days and were at the famous Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí.
There were four different archery competitions during the Olympics. Archery is a sport where athletes use bows and arrows to hit targets as accurately as they can. It was exciting to see the best archers from around the world compete for medals.
Competition format
A total of 128 athletes, 64 women and 64 men, took part in four archery events: men's individual, women's individual, men's team, and women's team.
All events used recurve bows and followed the World Archery rules at a 70-meter distance. The competition began with a ranking round where each archer shot 72 arrows to determine their starting positions.
The ranking round also helped decide the team order. Each event used a single-elimination tournament format, with a special match for the bronze medal.
Individual events
In the individual events, all 64 archers started in the first round, matched based on their ranking round scores. Each match was decided by the Archery Olympic Round, which included five sets of three arrows each. Points were awarded for each set, and if tied after five sets, one final arrow decided the winner.
Team events
In the team events, the top four teams from the ranking round got a break in the quarter-finals. The next eight teams competed for the last four spots. For the first time, the team event used the same Archery Olympic Round set system as the individual event.
