Canada took part in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. This was one of Canada's best Winter Olympics ever. Canada won 17 medals, including seven gold medals. This put Canada fourth in the medal count. Canada has been in every Winter Olympic Games, and this was a proud moment for the country.

Notable events

Canada did very well at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The country won gold medals in ice hockey for both the women's and men's teams. Marc Gagnon, a short-track speed skater, won two gold medals and a bronze medal. Catriona Le May Doan won gold in the 500 m speed skating event. Jamie Salé and David Pelletier won gold in pairs figure skating. Beckie Scott won a medal in cross-country skiing. Clara Hughes earned a bronze medal in the 5000 m speed skating event. Jeremy Wotherspoon tripped and fell in his 500 m race. Elvis Stojko finished 8th in the men's figure skating event.

Ice hockey

Canada joined the ice hockey events at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Both the men's and women's teams played in their tournaments.

The men's team played in the first round of Group C. They then moved to the knock-out stage, which included the quarter final, semi final, and gold medal game. The players who played are listed in the table.

The women's team also had a group stage. The top two teams went to the semifinals. They then played in the semi final and gold medal game, with their teams also listed in a table.
