Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
Hollywood Burbank Airport (IATA: BUR, ICAO: KBUR, FAA LID: BUR) is a public airport located three miles (5 km) northwest of downtown Burbank, in Los Angeles County, California, United States. It serves the cities of Burbank and Hollywood, and also helps people traveling to the northern part of the Greater Los Angeles area, including places like Glendale, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, and the Santa Clarita Valley.
This airport is special because it is closer to many famous places, such as Griffith Park, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Downtown Los Angeles, compared to the bigger Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). It also has a direct train connection to Downtown Los Angeles. Trains stop at two stations very close to the airport: Burbank Airport–North and Burbank Airport–South.
Most flights from Hollywood Burbank Airport go to cities in the western United States, but Delta Air Lines also offers flights to Atlanta. The airport is owned by the Burbank–Glendale–Pasadena Airport Authority and has its own police and fire departments. Boarding planes here usually uses air stairs instead of jet bridges.
History
The airport has had many names over the years. It was called United Airport from 1930 to 1934, then Union Air Terminal until 1940. After that, it was Lockheed Air Terminal from 1940 to 1967. From 1967 to 1978, it was known as Hollywood–Burbank Airport, and then Burbank–Glendale–Pasadena Airport until 2003. Since 2003, it has been named Bob Hope Airport, after the famous comedian Bob Hope. In 2017, it was rebranded as Hollywood Burbank Airport because people did not recognize the Bob Hope name in that area.
The airport was built on a 234-acre site that was filled and leveled for the purpose. It opened in 1930 with a large celebration that included an air show. For many years, it was the largest airport in the Los Angeles area until a new airport opened in 1946. Over the years, many airlines have operated from the airport, and jets began flying there in the late 1960s. The airport has changed names several times and has seen many developments, including a new terminal being built that will open in 2026.

Hollywood Burbank Airport has its own Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting station for emergencies.
The airport has two terminals, called "A" and "B". They are joined together in one building. Terminal A has nine gates, and Terminal B has five gates. A new terminal began construction in January 2024. It will replace the current building in October 2026 and will have 14 gates.
You can reach the airport using exits from Interstate 5, State Route 134, State Route 170, or U.S. Route 101.
