American Airlines
American Airlines is a big airline in the United States. It is based in Fort Worth, Texas, in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It is the largest airline in the world for the number of passengers and daily flights.
American Airlines has almost 6,800 flights each day to nearly 350 places in 48 countries. It flies with its smaller planes as American Eagle. The airline is part of the Oneworld group, one of the world's three big airline alliances.
The airline has ten main airports where many of its flights start. The biggest is Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. Other important airports include Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Miami International Airport, and Philadelphia International Airport. These airports help link travelers to many parts of the world.
American Airlines carries more than 200 million passengers every year. It has around 103,440 employees. The airline helps connect people and places all over the world with its many flights and teamwork with other airlines.
American Airlines started in 1930 when many small airlines joined together. Two important ones were Robertson Aircraft Corporation and Colonial Air Transport. These became part of a bigger company called American Airways in 1930, and later changed their name to American Airlines in 1934.
The airline helped create important airplanes like the Douglas DC-3. This happened after a phone call between the airline's leader and an airplane company. The DC-3 started flying passengers in 1936. The airline also helped develop the DC-10, a bigger plane that could fly far. The DC-10 began flying for American Airlines in 1971.
In 2013, American Airlines joined with US Airways but kept the American Airlines name. This made it the biggest airline in the United States and the world.
