The Council of Clermont

The Council of Clermont was a big meeting for important leaders in the Catholic Church. It happened in the year 1095 in a town called Clermont. Clermont is in a place called Auvergne, which was part of the Duchy of Aquitaine.

The meeting was called by Pope Urban II. During this time, church leaders talked about making the church better and stronger. They also talked about keeping peace among the people in their lands.

One of the most important things that happened was when Pope Urban gave a big speech. He asked people to help protect a very special place called the Holy Land. This idea led many people to go on a journey to support those places.

The council had many important church leaders from France. Some of them were Dagobert, Archbishop of Pisa, and Hugues de Die, Archbishop of Lyon. They all came together to discuss how to make their church and communities better.

People remember the Council of Clermont because it was a time when leaders made big decisions to help others far away. It showed how the church worked to bring people together for important causes.
