Londinium

Londinium was the name of a very old city that is now called London. It was built a long time ago when Rome ruled Britain. People think it started around the year 47 or 50 AD after the Romans came to Britain.

Londinium was built near a place where the River Thames could be crossed easily. This made it a good spot for travel and trade. The city grew quickly and became very important. By the year 122 AD, when Emperor Hadrian visited, Londinium had big public buildings.

The city was protected by a wall built between 190 and 225 AD. This wall, called the London Wall, stood for over 1,600 years and helped shape the edges of the old City of London.

Today, some parts of the old walls can still be seen in different places in London. The story of Londinium shows how London has been an important place for a very long time.
