The Mighty Mekong River

The Mekong River is one of the longest rivers in the world. It flows through many countries in East Asia and Southeast Asia. The river is about as long as four football fields put together!

The Mekong starts on the Tibetan Plateau in China. In China, it is called the Lancang River. It then flows through Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and into southern Vietnam. Along the way, it passes beautiful places and big cities.

People have used the Mekong River for thousands of years. It helps them travel and trade. Boats move goods and people between towns and cities. The river also gives water for farming and fishing. Many families depend on the river for their food and jobs.

The Mekong is home to many amazing animals. It has big fish, like the giant freshwater stingray and the Mekong giant catfish. The river also has freshwater dolphins, though there are very few left. These animals make the Mekong a special place for nature lovers.

The Mekong River is very important to the countries it flows through. It connects people and helps them share resources. Many towns and cities grew up along its banks. Today, the Mekong faces some challenges, but people are working together to protect this wonderful river.
