Mussenden Temple in Northern Ireland, featuring beautiful architectural details and carvings.

Mussenden Temple

Mussenden Temple is a small, round building with beautiful views. It is located on tall cliffs near Castlerock in County Londonderry. From the temple, you can see the Atlantic Ocean and enjoy the fresh sea air.

The temple was built in 1785 as a special gift for Mrs. Frideswide Mussenden. It was designed to look like the Temple of Vesta in Rome. Long ago, it had walls filled with books and a fire to keep them dry.

Today, the National Trust takes care of the temple. Visitors can explore the area around Mussenden Temple and Downhill Castle all year. You can see wonderful views to the west over Downhill Strand toward Magilligan Point and across to Inishowen in County Donegal. To the east, you can spot Castlerock beach, Portstewart, Portrush, and Fair Head.

Since 2007, people can have special wedding ceremonies at the temple. The nearest train station is Castlerock railway station.
