The New Testament

The New Testament is the second part of the Christian Bible. It tells the story of Jesus and the early days of Christianity. The first part of the Bible is called the Old Testament, which is mostly based on the Hebrew Bible. Together, Christians believe both parts are very special and important.

The New Testament has 27 books written in Koine Greek. It includes four gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, letters called epistles by Paul the Apostle and others, and the Book of Revelation. Over time, these books were chosen by early Christians to be very important.

The Gospels

The four gospels tell the story of Jesus of Nazareth. A gospel means "good news." These stories share the happy message about Jesus and his important role.

  • The Gospel of Matthew talks about Jesus' family tree and his birth.
  • The Gospel of Mark starts with Jesus being baptized.
  • The Gospel of Luke was written by someone who traveled with Paul.
  • The Gospel of John begins with a thoughtful introduction and ends with Jesus appearing again after his death.

Acts of the Apostles

The Acts of the Apostles tells what happened after Jesus died and came back to life. It continues the story from the Gospel of Luke and describes the work of Jesus' followers.

Epistles and Revelation

The New Testament also has letters, called epistles, written by Paul and others to early Christian groups and people. The last book is the Book of Revelation, which has special messages and visions for early Christian groups.

The New Testament is very important to Christians. They see it as holy and helpful for learning about Jesus and living a good life. It has inspired many stories, artworks, and songs over the years.
