Philadelphia, often called Philly, is the biggest city in Pennsylvania and the sixth-largest city in the United States. About 1.6 million people live there, with many more in the surrounding area called the Delaware Valley.

A City with History

The city was founded in 1682 by William Penn. It played a big role during important times in American history. Many leaders met there and made big decisions for the country. Philadelphia was also the nation’s first capital before Washington, D.C. was built.

Fun and Learning

Today, Philadelphia is a place full of learning and fun. It has 17 universities and colleges, making it a center for students and ideas. The city has one of the largest urban parks in the United States, perfect for playing and relaxing. Sports fans love Philadelphia because it has five professional teams to cheer for!

Tasty Treats and Special Foods

Philadelphia is famous for its delicious foods. You can try hoagies, scrapple, soft pretzels, water ice, and the famous cheesesteak sandwich. The Reading Terminal Market is a wonderful place to explore and taste many different foods.

Getting Around

Philadelphia has many ways to travel around. The SEPTA system helps people move by bus, train, subway, and trolley. 30th Street Station is a very busy train station where many people come to travel. The city also has two airports: Philadelphia International Airport for big flights and Northeast Philadelphia Airport for smaller planes.

Beautiful Places to Visit

There are many beautiful and interesting places to see in Philadelphia. Independence National Historical Park is home to important spots like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. The Franklin Institute is a fun science museum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art has amazing artworks. Don’t forget to visit the steps of the museum, made famous by the movie Rocky!
