Rijeka
Rijeka is a lively city by the sea in Croatia. It is the country’s main seaport and the third-largest city. More than 100,000 people call Rijeka home.
The city sits on the shore of the Kvarner Bay, part of the beautiful Adriatic Sea. Rijeka is close to mountains, which makes it a special place with both sea and hills nearby.
Rijeka is famous for its big port, where many ships come and go. The city is also known for making ships, with big shipyards like 3. Maj and Viktor Lenac Shipyard. People enjoy fun events, such as the colorful Rijeka Carnival, which happens every year.
Rijeka has many places to see, like Trsat Castle, which stands on a hill with great views. The Rijeka Cathedral is an important building where people meet. The city also has a university, called the University of Rijeka, where students study many things.
In 2020, Rijeka was chosen to be the European Capital of Culture along with Galway in Ireland. This means the city hosted many art shows, music, and fun activities for everyone to enjoy.
Rijeka is a place where history, culture, and the sea come together, making it a wonderful city to visit or live in.
