The Tattoo features music and performances by bands and teams from the British Armed Forces, the Commonwealth, and many other countries. People come from all over the world to watch these exciting shows.

The word tattoo comes from an old Dutch phrase. It used to mean a signal for soldiers to stop drinking and go to bed. Now, it means a special show with music and performances.

The first public military tattoo in Edinburgh happened in 1949, and the official show began in 1950. Today, thousands of people enjoy the Tattoo each August. The show is part of the famous Edinburgh Festivals and sometimes includes fireworks!

Each year, performers from many countries join the Tattoo. Popular acts include the Top Secret Drum Corps from Basel. The show helps raise money for important causes and brings many visitors to Edinburgh.
