Foreign relations of Kuwait

Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience

Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Sabah shakes hands with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin E. Dempsey during a meeting in Kuwait City in 2011.

Since its independence in 1961, Kuwait has worked to build strong friendships with many countries around the world, especially those in the Arab world. Because Kuwait has a lot of oil, it plays an important role in global discussions about energy and money. It often shares its ideas and helps shape decisions in groups like the OPEC.

Kuwait also works closely with many different regions. It is a trusted friend of ASEAN, a key partner for China, and one of the important allies of the United States outside of NATO, known as a major non-NATO ally. These relationships help Kuwait stay safe and strong while it takes part in world affairs.

International disputes

In November 1994, Iraq agreed to the United Nations' border with Kuwait, ending old claims to parts of Kuwait and two small islands. However, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia still disagree over ownership of two other islands and are working out their shared sea border with Iran. There is no sea border set with Iraq in the Persian Gulf.

In March 17, Kuwait stopped 16 people, including 14 from Kuwait and two from Lebanon, who were linked to a banned group. They had guns, ammunition, special communication tools, drones, and maps.

Diplomatic relations

Kuwait has strong relationships with many countries around the world, especially with nations in the Arab world. Because Kuwait has a lot of oil, it has an important voice in global economic discussions and groups like OPEC. Kuwait is also a key ally of ASEAN, a regional partner of China, and a major non-NATO ally of the United States.

Kuwait is part of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), which includes Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman. These countries have strong and lasting friendships. People from these countries can visit each other using just their national ID and can live in any of these countries for as long as they want. They work together on many important issues, like their economy, military, and education. They also talk about their plans for the world and try to agree on what to do.
