Who Are Norwegians?
Norwegians are the people who live in Norway. In their own language, they call themselves Nordmenn. They share a special culture and speak a beautiful language called Norwegian.
Long ago, Norwegians were part of a group called the Norse people. They helped form the Kingdom of Norway in the year 800. During a time called the Viking Age, Norwegian explorers traveled to faraway places like the British Isles, Iceland, and Greenland.
Where Do Norwegians Live?
Most Norwegians live in Norway, but you can find them all around the world! Many Norwegian families moved to places like the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. In these countries, they kept their traditions and language alive.
Norwegians love nature. Their country has amazing forests, mountains, and long coastlines with many islands. They enjoy outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, and skiing all year round.
Norwegian Culture and Food
Norwegian culture is rich with music, art, and special days. One famous day is May 17, when Norwegians celebrate their constitution. Children wear traditional clothes and join happy parades.
Norwegian food is delicious and comes from their land and sea. Popular foods include salmon, herring, and trout. Traditional dishes like lefse, a sweet potato flatbread, are enjoyed especially during Christmas.
Music is also important. Famous composers like Edvard Grieg made beautiful songs that people still love today. Norwegians also enjoy jazz and modern music.
Norwegians have many happy traditions that make their culture special and full of joy.
