Southern England

Southern England is the warm, sunny part of England. It is where you can find big, busy cities and quiet villages. This area has many people and lots of places to see.

The South has four main parts: London, the South East, the South West, and the East of England. It touches Wales to the west and the Midlands to the north.

Greater London is the biggest city here. It is full of people and has many important places. Other big cities in the South are Bristol, Southampton, and Portsmouth.

The South is known for being a bit richer than other parts of England. Many families live here and enjoy nice homes. Places like Surrey and Sussex have lovely villages and beautiful green spaces.

People in the South speak English, but it can sound a little different depending on where you are. In places like London and Kent, people speak what is called Estuary English. In the West Country, people speak West Country English, which has a special way of sounding.

The South has many famous universities, like Oxford and Cambridge. These schools are very old and very important.

Many people love to watch football, and the South has some exciting games. The South Coast Derby is a fun match between Portsmouth Football Club and Southampton Football Club. Rugby is also popular here, especially in places like Bath and Gloucester.
