St. Lawrence River

The St. Lawrence River is a very big and important river in North America. It connects the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. The river starts at Lake Ontario and flows all the way to the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Many boats travel on the St. Lawrence River. A special system of locks and canals called the St. Lawrence Seaway helps ships from all over the world reach ports near the Great Lakes. This makes the river very busy with ships.
The river passes through parts of Canada and the United States. It even forms a border between these two countries in some places. Along the river, you can find beautiful natural areas like the Thousand Islands and special places where whales live.
People have used the St. Lawrence River for travel and trade for a very long time. It helped cities like Montreal and Quebec City grow and become important places. The river is a wonderful part of Canada’s history and nature.
