Mainland Southeast Asia
Mainland Southeast Asia is a special part of Southeast Asia. It is connected to land and has many interesting countries. The countries here are Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and parts of Malaysia and Singapore.
This area touches East Asia to the north and South Asia to the west. It is also close to Maritime Southeast Asia, which has many islands.
People have lived in this area for a very long time. The name "Indochina" started in the 1800s. It shows how old cultures from India and China influenced the people here. Today, we usually call it Mainland Southeast Asia.
Countries and Cities
Mainland Southeast Asia has seven countries. Some of the biggest cities are:
- Bangkok – the capital of Thailand
- Hanoi – the capital of Vietnam
- Kuala Lumpur – the capital of Malaysia
- Singapore – a small but very busy city
- Yangon – a big city in Myanmar
Rivers and Mountains
This area has many tall mountains and big rivers. The Mekong River is the longest river here. It flows through many countries and helps people grow food and travel.
Weather
The weather in Mainland Southeast Asia changes a lot. In the north, it can be cooler, while in the middle and south, it is very warm most of the time. Some places have rainy seasons when it rains a lot, and other times it is drier.
People and Languages
Many different people live in Mainland Southeast Asia. Some of the biggest groups are Thai, Lao, Viet, Burmese, Khmer, and Malays. They speak many languages, such as Thai, Vietnamese, Burmese, and Khmer. There are also many smaller groups with their own languages.

- The Gulf of Thailand is a big part of the sea here.
- Tonlé Sap in Cambodia is a very large lake.
- Hkakabo Razi in Myanmar is the tallest mountain in this area.
Mainland Southeast Asia is a wonderful place with many cultures, languages, and beautiful lands. It is a great part of the world to learn about!
